Antalis has confirmed the acquisition of the assets and trade of UK paper merchant Ovenden Papers.
Antalis bought the Essex-based business on 18 September from its administrators. In its most recently available annual report – for the 12 months ended 31 March 2025 – Ovenden had swung to a pre-tax loss of around £1.3 million as sales fell by 17.5% to £37.9 million.
The deal includes customer relationships, employees, premises and relevant operational assets, which Antalis said would enable it to provide continuity while it undertakes a detailed review of the business and its future development.
“The acquisition provides an opportunity to build on Ovendens’ assets, combining the business’s established market knowledge and customer relationships with Antalis’ wider product portfolio, distribution network, technical expertise and resources,” Antalis wrote in a press release, adding: “In the immediate term, the priority is to ensure a smooth transition and maintain continuity of supply and service for customers.”
One thing Antalis did confirm was that Ovenden would continue to operate under its existing name.
