Peter Birks, CEO of Ryman and the London Graphic Centre, has left the business.
Birks – who formerly ran Staples’ retail operations in the UK – joined Ryman in mid-2021 – a new position at the company. He has now departed, with Chairman Theo Paphitis set to play a more hands-on role at the firm he acquired 27 years ago.
“Peter Birks helped to support Ryman through a challenging period as we transitioned out of the pandemic,” said Paphitis in a statement to Workplace360. “I thank Peter, who I have known for many years, for his dedication and enthusiasm for the Ryman business and wish him every success for the future.”
He added: “Having spent many years running the business personally, I am delighted to once again be running the day-to-day activities of Ryman; steering it through a challenging time for the retail sector. I am looking forward to getting stuck in again, with my dedicated team.”
Small business champion Paphitis has been urging the UK government to cut business rates in town centres, where most of Ryman’s stores are located, or else prepare for the “destruction” of the high street retail channel.
