Leading parcel delivery firm DPD – evo’s logistics partner – has announced an investment of £330 million for the construction of seven purpose-built distribution centres in the next two years.
The new 60,000 sq ft facilities will form part of DPD’s ongoing expansion and modernisation of its UK network, which currently comprises more than 80 regional parcel centres. The latest development will take the number of newly built DPD DCs to 50.
Sites in Crawley and Darlington are due to begin construction this year, while centres in Cambridge, Bradford, Guildford, Milton Keynes and Sittingbourne are scheduled for 2026. All seven locations are expected to be operational by early 2027.
Each depot will feature fully automated sortation systems and the capacity to handle up to 80,000 parcels per day. DPD said the centres would support over 100 new delivery routes apiece, with room for future growth.
Designed with efficient transport links and EV charging infrastructure, the new buildings will serve DPD’s growing electric van fleet. The company said the investment would also create a “significant” number of new roles across operations, warehousing, administration and driving.
“This announcement represents a significant investment in our infrastructure,” said Tim Jones, Director of Marketing, Communications & Sustainability at DPD UK. “It is one of the reasons we continue to be the leading premium parcel delivery service in the UK.”
