UK business supplies group evo has highlighted improvements in the environmental performance of its distribution operations.
The company said it consumed 74,000 fewer litres of fuel in 2025 despite its fleet travelling an additional 360,000 road miles during the year.
Other progress has been made in reducing the environmental impact of evo’s logistics network. Backhauling – using returning vehicles to transport goods rather than running them empty – resulted in an estimated saving of 53 tonnes of CO2 last year.
Meanwhile, 50% of the group’s distribution centres are now powered by 100% renewable energy.
Evo has also taken steps to improve the sustainability of its packaging. The boxes it uses contain 70% recycled material and are all FSC certified. In addition, packaging is right-sized to individual orders, helping to avoid the use of unnecessarily large boxes.
Another initiative has focused on reducing water consumption across the group’s estate. Following a trial of waterless urinals, the programme has now been rolled out to 13 evo sites. The company estimates this will save three million litres of water annually.
The figures form part of evo’s latest update on its environmental and CSR activities.
