On 23 April, Hamelin Brands UK Channel Sales Manager Shane Owen will attempt to secure the world record for ‘fastest marathon dressed as a book (male)’. He is taking on this challenge to raise funds for the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR).
Last year, the company’s Managing Director Philip Beer secured the world record for ‘fastest marathon dressed as a book (male)’ in just 5 hours, 34 minutes and 31 seconds. Owen hopes to beat this and set a new world record while supporting the ICR.
The attempt comes following the loss of a colleague, Eddie Sampson, to cancer on 28 July 2021. The costume that Owen will be running in has been named in memory of Eddie and has been inspired by the fact that Hamelin Brands is Europe’s largest manufacturer of exercise books.
Owen is a seasoned runner, but this will be the first time he has attempted the London Marathon, let alone in a costume!
Anyone wanting to follow Owen’s progress can do so via the #thebookrun hashtag on Twitter and Facebook. Donations can be made through the JustGiving page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/hamelin-brands2023
