The CEO of office products vendor Durable has described how the company is investing in renewable energy sources and reducing its electricity consumption.
“Durable’s main target is to combine both economy and ecology in a meaningful way and the protection of our environment with social responsibility,” said Rolf Schifferens. “We also pursue concrete ecological sustainability goals, such as reducing the waste of resources and clearly moving towards a circular economy.”
He added: “Only recently, we put another large solar system into operation, thus once again increasing the share of renewable energies of our total energy consumption. All our production sites now have a large solar panel area.
“In addition to the use of renewable energies, we are working on resource-saving development and production. The lighting at all our sites has already been converted to energy-saving LED technology. With the help of the so-called BUSS systems, we succeed in making machine use highly efficient and minimise idle times. Especially in the field of injection moulding – a large area of our production – this is a great lever for saving resources. Additionally, we use the waste heat of our machines to heat the production halls and produce hot water.”
Schifferens concluded: “Parcel shipping is CO2-neutral, in cooperation with our logistics company. We have also increased the proportion of products made from recycled materials this year. In addition to a range of Blue Angel-certified desk accessories, this also includes badge holders. We are aware that this is just the beginning. We are working intensively to further improve our carbon footprint.”
